Week 10 Day 5

10:00am

I have to work all day. This morning went well. My wife made me a lunch for work to save some money. Baby bump is getting bigger and bigger.

1:32pm

Too much help today at work so we are all standing around bored. I have been cooking samples for customers all day to pass the time(I work in a grocery meat market). Bacon and turkey sausage. Then sautéed Swai(pangasius, mild white fish). Now some Cajun blackened grouper. My wife is out shopping with her sister. Must be feeling pretty good today.

5:23pm

About 30 minutes until I can leave work. Thank God! All I have done today is make samples and eat most of it myself! All delicious though and came up with some new ideas. Putting my culinary arts degree to work!

7:25pm

Walked into her watching the movie Sinister. She said it's very scary and recommended for you scary movie fans. I personally hate them. I'm a wuss with scary movies. I once watched The Ring by myself with all the lights on and the movie on mute the whole time.

No sickness yet today. Hopefully it's starting to subside.

9:31

She's cooking dinner. I said I didn't like how the vinaigrette tasted that she made and she got all mad. Emotions of a pregnant woman are insane. Guess its bedtime for me. Stay out of her way.

Week 10 Day 4

12:03pm

Lots of snow overnight! Sitting in my car eating lunch at work. Not much going on today. We both got up and got to work. She seemed to be feeling ok today other than her back and feet feeling sore.

6:35pm

Headed to a friend's for the Blackhawks hockey game and some pizza. She said she had a weird "flick-like" feeling coming from where the baby is. Almost like it moved. Weird. Pretty early I would think for something like that...

9:58pm

Hawks are winning. My wife is puking in the bathroom. Bummer.

1:03am

Miller 64 always makes me tired and crabby. It's nice to have a designated driver at all times now. We don't drink very often anymore(her not at all now since pregnant. Obviously). Guess we grew out of that stage. At least the hawks won. Beat the record for most consecutive games won to begin a season. 14-0-3. Goodnight world.

Week 10 Day 3

9:49am

I'm off today. Thank God. I was on vacation all last week(paid, of course), then worked Monday, off Tuesday(paid too, for my birthday), worked Wednesday, now off today. Sometimes my job isn't so bad I suppose.  Anyways my wife is running out the door to work, she's a little behind this morning. She made gluten-free pancakes for breakfast. We used some REAL maple syrup too, that we got from my Dad who lives on the east coast. He tapped the tree himself. Pretty good stuff, not that high fructose corn syrup crap.
Gluten-Free pancakes with REAL maple syrup

I forgot to mention yesterday that she told me that she was really cramping bad. She was a little worried about it but I guess she is feeling better today. The pancakes almost made her throw up though. Not because they were bad, but because she ate too much. I don't know if that had anything to do with the pregnancy or not. The doctor prescribed her Zofran (Ondansetron) to help with the nausea. She takes it occasionally, but only when absolutely necessary. If you are having nausea issues look into it because it really does help her.

12:39pm

Joined babyandbump.momtastic.com. They have all kinds of forums for pregnancy and a special section for fathers/men. I'll check it every once-in-a-while and see if I can learn anything from it. Wife is still at work, she just text me that she is getting Chipotle for lunch. JEALOUS! Guess I'll just go work out.

4:00pm

She came home after work and started an argument with me about having diet soda around her future children. I do drink it occasionally. Nowhere near like I used to because the health effects are terrible. However I feel like if we keep things away from our kids they are more likely to do it behind our backs anyways. Maybe just limit them or demonstrate to them why we don't drink much soda and the reasons why.

I just made lunch since she had chipotle.

Lunch- Tortilla Tilapia with Greek Yogurt "tartar" sauce, and some nectarines.
She is complaining of her back hurting again. This is everyday. She is always sore. Sometimes I just think she likes when I rub her back and massage her that she exaggerates it a little bit. Although when she stood up off the bed she nearly fell to the floor with a crippling pain in her lower back. Pregnancy related or not I do not know.

She just left for a second interview for a different job. Better paying so that would be great. Wish her luck! We could use the extra income, looking to buy a house in the near future, before baby arrives.

10:34pm

She was told that out of 900 people interviewed, she made it to the top 2. The lady is so impressed with what she already knows how to do that she is just sure that she will be able to nail the last interview, which is sometime next week. I'm hoping and praying for that because it's a much better opportunity.

We ran to TJ Maxx to look for a blazer for her, because she doesn't have any. She will need one to look professional for the next interview.  No luck there. Clothes Mentor was our next stop. They sell lightly used clothes for a huge discount. She found two blazers for really cheap, that were practically brand new. Heck, she will probably only wear them once or twice anyways. Oh, and sorry to the parking lot for the throw up. Pregnant women can't help it. Hope you understand.

We had a gift card to Red Lobster so we stopped there for dinner, assuming we could find something there to split for a fairly reasonable price (save save save!). She puked in the parking lot before going in, and again after walking in(in the bathroom). I ordered 6 fresh oysters on ice because I have been craving them. She can't have them because it's raw shellfish, maybe a bad choice on my part, because she loves them. She had some clam chowder, and we ended up splitting a pasta with lobster and mussels and some other seafood stuff.

Came home and watched a little TV and ate some Oreo ice cream. YUM. Have to watch what we are eating though, don't want to gain too much weight! Especially me, I try to eat healthy most of the time.

Week 10 Day 2

10:13am

My wife works Monday-Friday 10am-2pm. So today we got up around 8am and she went downstairs to make breakfast. She came up about 30 minutes later with a huge assortment of cut up fruit (honeydew, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe), cottage cheese (love my proteins!), and some whole wheat toast with butter and strawberry jelly. I must admit, before she was pregnant, she very rarely woke up early, especially early enough to make breakfast before going to work. So for me, this is quite a treat.

I have to go to work at 1pm today. I work full-time, yet lots of times feel like it's not enough. I am thinking about looking for a second job. I am very nervous about the future and how we will be financially able to support a child, but it seems like everyone else with less manages to do it just fine. Everyone tells us not to worry about the baby, because it will be well taken care of and things will fall into place. We are thankful that everyone has been so reassuring and giving to us.

She already left for work so I think I will go work out for a little bit until it's time for me to get ready.

10:16pm

Long boring day at work, what's new? I got home around 9:30pm to find my wife already asleep. I guess the hormones really take a toll on a pregnant woman'a body. She says she is always tired, and it is a known common symptom.

Sometimes it's nice to have peace and quiet like this. After September, I will be lucky to get any so time to take advantage of it. I'll let her sleep...

Made myself dinner. Tilapia, half an avocado, and some microwave Indian chickpea side dish that wasn't that great. Oh well.

Week 10 Day 1

2/19/13

These last ten weeks have really been something. A roller coaster ride of mood swings and food aversions....I never realized how much a woman's body really could change.

I'll start out with a little background information. I just turned 26 on Feb 9, and my wife turned 23 on the 9th also (weird I know, but hey that's actually how we met!). They say it's a windy city here in Chicago. I guess we must have blown right into each other. We, like most couples, have had our share of ups and downs, but we always manage to get through them. I love her more today than yesterday, and even more tomorrow. We have been together for 3 years, recently married, and blessed with our first bundle of joy soon to arrive.

The first official day of your pregnancy begins on the first day of your last missed period(which I, like most men I'm sure, did not know), which would be December 11th. We were told by our ultrasound technician that the baby was most likely conceived on December 25th, and that's why we were late to Christmas breakfast. OOPS! MERRY CHRISTMAS! At our initial doctor's visit we were told that the baby came from her right ovary, and we were able to watch the first flickers of life right there on the screen. It was a very neat experience, and the feeling is indescribable.

FAST FORWARD TO WEEK 10

My posts will be more like this. Simple, and to the point. My purpose is to create this "diary" so that my wife and I can look back and help remember the process, day by day. Sharing our story with others is just a bonus.

Anyways, today we had our second OBGYN visit. Just some testing for bacteria and yeast or any other type of vaginal infections which can be more prominent during pregnancy. Not that exciting for a guy. But we did get to hear the heartbeat for the first time. Another emotional moment more so for her, but for me as well. We have friends that are a little ahead of us in their pregnancy, so we sort of have a "heads-up" via Facebook of what's next to come. They mentioned something about the first sounds of the heartbeat a few weeks back.

My wife had to work this morning, and I had the day off. My employer allows a day off for your birthday, paid. So even though it was the 9th, I can use it any time after. Today was that day. I dropped her off at work at 9am and picked her up at 12:30 to make it to the doctor. She was starving on the way so instead of being on time, we were a few minutes late due to an emergency McDonalds drive-thru visit. She is ALWAYS hungry and craves the strangest things! She is also very tired, so when we got home from the visit, she went straight to a nap.

While she was sleeping, and I sit here pondering, this blog was born. See you tomorrow!

UPDATE: Ran to the grocery store for some fresh fruit and veggies. She stayed up until midnight cutting fruit into chunks, and I made dinner.. Chicken breasts with pan sauce, steamed broccoli, and a sweet potato with coconut butter. yum!
