Week 36 Day 6 - Pulled Pork Photo Shoot

8:55pm

Holy hectic day. Had to be at work at 6am so that I could be off in time to make it to our maternity photo shoot.

I also made all kind of samples today. We have pork shoulders on sale for .99 a lb. They wanted me (the chef) to showcase them, so I made some BBQ Pulled Pork, and Pork Carnitas, too. Customers loved both. I loved both. Not only because it was delicious, but because it was a free lunch. Gotta love that. Store director praised me for my hard work. I guess that's good. Not sure how sincere it is, though.

We met up at my wife's sister's house after work. She lives literally 2 minutes from where we had the photo's taken. So I took a shower there, and got ready. My wife just had to do her makeup and get our outfits figured out.

Photos went well, I think. We will see when we get them. Should be in a couple weeks. It was a beautiful day, and the park we were at was also very nice. Would love to go back and spend a couple hours there walking around. I like nature-type things like that.

Looks like we are going to spend the night cleaning out our drawers. Lots of crap in there saved that we don't need. My wife is a hoarder, I swear.

Week 36 Day 5 - Trust This Dad

9:54pm

Glad the work day is over. What a mess but it's a long story. Basically there is more work than help, but isn't that the case everywhere these days?

My wife went to Cheesecake Factory with her friend so I had a buddy over. We went to a bar and grill for some dinner. It was nice because I haven't been out in a long time. I think it's important that each person in a relationship is able to have a social life as well as a family life. Trust plays a big part here. If you trust each other, there is nothing wrong with being able to go out and have a good time without each other.

We are all at our place now watching the Bears preseason game. They are killing the Raiders. My wife is doing baby registry stuff. Even though the baby shower is over. She is obsessed, but what mother-to-be isn't? So I understand.

I can tell this is getting close. We have the baby's dishwashing soap. Yikes.

Oh, and if anyone cares, Kim Kardashian posted the first picture of baby North West today.

Kanye, for sure.

Week 36 Day 4 - Pregnancy Brain

9:59pm

Another trip to our home away from home. Been to Babies R Us quite a few times in the last few days.

We actually met each other there yesterday after work. It is close to mine so that was convenient for us. However, we got there and realized that she forgot the gift cards. She drove all the way to meet me, about 30 minutes, all for nothing. This has happened a few times in the last couple months. The first time we were grocery shopping, and we had a cart full. It was 8:57pm and the store closed at 9pm. Everything was scanned and ready to go.

Stop.

Where's the debit card?

Oh crap. Forgot it at home.

Oops.

Welcome to the world of Pregnancy Brain.

(It's a real thing, folks)

Luckily, today, she brought everything we needed and we were able to get quite a bit of the rest of our registry. So that's good.

Just seems like so much to do with so little time. We are both overwhelmed, but we are doing our best.

Oh and where was this when I was little? Cool Corvette bed!

Week 36 Day 3 - Car Seat Safety

2:37pm

I posted a picture of our Britax car seat on Instagram. It has a head support/positioner insert (or whatever they are called, to support newborns) already strapped in it for the ride home from the hospital. They are made to keep newborns snug in the carseat, because they are simply too small when they are first born.

However, I had a couple comments left right away. Apparently, they are not approved by any carseat manufacturers and will void the warranty. In other words, they can be very unsafe. I never even thought twice about that, but it does make sense. Whenever you tamper with anything made for safety, it usually isn't a great idea. The carseat manufacturers design the seats so that try are safe as possible.

If you mess with the airbag of a car, chances are it won't be as effective in the even of an accident. Same situation here. So we will really have to look into that. I'm glad they said something.

Something to keep in mind!

2:57pm

Update-

Some info I found from www.safercar.gov

  • Babies need support to keep their airway open. As your child grows the angle may be adjusted, so be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions. Most car seats have built in angle indicators or adjustors to assist you.

Extra Support
  • If your baby needs support, fill the empty spaces with small, rolled blankets on each side of the baby’s shoulders and head.
  • If there is a gap between the buckle and your child’s groin (common for young infants), try placing a rolled washcloth or diaper in the space for a more secure fit.
  • Thick padding must not be put under or behind the baby unless it is recommended for use by the manufacturer.

Week 36 Day 2 - Where's The Expectant Dad's Parking Spot?

9:04pm

I got to spend some time with my dad yesterday. We went and played a quick round of golf. I'm not very good at it, but he tries to help. I guess you could say I'm getting better. Need to keep practicing.

After that we headed over to all the "baby" stores to take back some duplicate items, and exchange for things that we still need. We loved all the gifts, but ended up with quite a bit of stuff that wasn't even on our registry. We really need a few important items, so we exchanged some of the things that we won't really use. I parked in the "expecting mothers" parking spot, but it got me to thinking...

Why doesn't dad get a special spot? Are these people sexist? I'm expecting a baby too. But I have to walk farther? What's the deal?!

If you can't read the sign, it says "Parking for Expectant Mothers, and Parents with Newborns." Well, I am neither! I want my rights! BuyBuyBaby, I say you give us dad's some credit too! Maybe our spots don't need to be closer than the mother's spot, but maybe we can have the next few. Heck, put us in the back, we are men, we don't care. It just is exciting to be recognized. Us guys are pretty easy to please.

So if any of you get to park in the new "Dad Spot" in the future. You can thank me later.

My wife was supposed to have a doctor's appointment today, but the Dr. was doing a delivery, or something like that. So her appointment won't be until next week. Simple check-ups until the baby comes now. Exciting that she can actually be here any day now. Hopefully she will wait a few more weeks, but she should be healthy even if she does show up a little sooner. My wife is starting to get pretty uncomfortable too. Feet hurt, back hurts, lots of naps, pains, all kinds of stuff. She doesn't look huge, either. I think I am over the whole "pregnant" lifestyle. I am as ready now as I ever will be. Well, besides the fact that I don't know how to put a diaper on, still. Better get working on that!

When did you learn how to change a diaper for the first time? Was it after your first born was already here? Did you practice before?

Week 36 Day 1 - Baby Shower Aftermath

10:47am

We had such a great baby shower yesterday. We are so lucky to have such great friends and family.

Our cake turned out great, even though I didn't get any at the time. Too busy opening up the endless amounts of presents.

I don't think we will have to buy any clothes for about 3 years!

Thanks to a diaper raffle that we had, we have plenty of diapers. It's a great idea, but you have to be careful what you use as the prize. We had a Coach purse as the grand prize, and it got pretty competitive.

Week 35 Day 7 - Baby Shower Day

7:59pm

Baby shower went fantastic! Thanks so much to everyone that came, or sent gifts! We are blessed to have such great family and friends.

Busy sorting and organizing tonight. Can't spend much time on here.
