Day 25 - Baby Poop Launcher

9:59pm

Coming close to a month old already... Where has time gone? Everyone warned us not to blink, because they grow so quickly. It seems like just yesterday, that I was seeing her coming out of places that I don't think I care to witness again. But it's ok, because every day she is becoming more and more a part of our normal routine. It's like she has always been here.

She has become very talented at launching spit-up, and even poop. She could out-distance me, that's for sure. But we aren't going to compete, because that would just be a mess.

She spit-up all over my wife today, while she was trying to burp her. She seems to burp, and then spit-up, regularly. We basically plan for it now. A couple days ago, she tricked my wife into thinking that she was done pooping, but while the last wipe before a fresh diaper covered up any sort of potential hazard, a forceful stream of recycled breastmilk made it's way through her little body and into an airborne disaster. My wife's face was priceless. Mostly because the poop covered half of her upper body, but also because she couldn't believe it! I found it funny, and impressive.

Day 10 - The Reason I Slept On The Couch Last Night

2:41pm

So this is a first for me...

We have a really nice, comfortable, new, memory foam king size bed. I love it. We both do. I would really miss it if for some reason I didn't have it anymore.

Last night, Brynlee would just not stop fussing. She ate, still cried. Changed her diaper, still cried. My wife even held her. Cried.

At about 4am, after tossing and turning and barely sleeping, I decided that there was no way I was going to be able to wake up at 6am and get to work with her crying.

I told my wife, "sorry, but I have to go sleep on the couch". She said OK. She understood. She hadn't slept much either.

The ironic part of this story is that at 6:30am, when I finally got off the couch, I went into the bedroom to find this....

Week 38 Day 2 - Passed Out Dad

1:23pm

I could probably write a whole story about the dangers of eating three hot dogs for lunch, like I just did. But I really don't care, because they were delicious. Actually, they were expired. Almost a month, expired. But I ate them anyways. Why? Because I am a MAN. And that's what we do.

Although, we usually don't do this....

Last night, after I wrote yesterday's post, we continued to organize the baby's room. I had been up at 5:30am that morning, followed by an exhausting day at work. Then a family party.

Reallly, I was pretty darn tired.

Most of the following I do not remember....

My wife said that I fell asleep. On the floor. Against the baby's crib. With my iPad underneath my head, like a pillow, and my iPhone still in my hand.

Anyone that knows me, knows that this is not that hard to believe. I am glued to my phone. Then again, who isn't these days?

I wish she had a picture.

Here I was, sleeping on her new pink shaggy carpet. It looks really comfortable, so I don't really blame myself. But how did I end up on the floor in the first place? I must have been so tired that I don't even remember sitting down? Apparently, I wasn't helping organize too much.

I have a feeling that once she is here, this type of situation will happen quite a few more times. Long, late nights feeding, and comforting the baby. I know that many parents find that sleep is not as prevalent as before-baby. There are loads of stories about parents falling asleep in the nurseries, and other odd places.

I will remember last night as the FIRST of many future awkward sleeping locations.

(Also, if I don't write for a few days, assume that I am in the hospital for hotdog food poisoning.)

Week 37 Day 3 - Penguin Waddle

4:15pm

Now that we are in the 37th week, which I believe is considered Full Term, we are at the point where we are ready for her to come. Maybe not ready in the sense of everything being in place, but ready in the way that we have had enough of pregnancy. My poor wife is getting pretty uncomfortable. It bothers her to lay on her back, she has to walk like a penguin (kind of funny, actually) and the baby seems to like to move around a lot and cause her some awkward feelings (like sharp pain/rubbing feelings). She described her moving in there, like the feeling of hands pushing and swiping across a filled balloon. I am thankful that I was born a man, and don't have to have any children growing inside of me. Props to you ladies out there. I cannot imagine.

Her job is starting to interview temps to fill her position for while she is off of work. If you ask me, they are a little late considering she could go early, but they wanted to wait. Hopefully baby will wait a little longer so that she has a chance to train the temp, on how to do her job, otherwise her work might be in trouble! My wife is good at what she does, and they have told her that numerous times. I know they will miss her there, and will be waiting for her to hurry back!

I was able to go out for a couple rounds of golf today with my grandpa and uncle. Anyday now, my free days off, will be spent caring for the baby. No more golfing for me. Unless someone else is around to take care of her.

Week 31 Day 7 - Great Ending To A Boring Day

9:49pm

Today was just another typical day at work. My wife was home all day, "cleaning". I'm not too sure what she cleaned but I've learned that it's better to just not ask. But I do know that the house is a mess. I hate a cluttered house.

When I got home, my wife suggested that we go spend sometime at her sister's family's vacation house. Which isn't all that far from where we live, out in the country. I have never been there. It's on a big lake and the house is beautiful! It's so weird because I was just thinking earlier about how much I would love to be out on a lake somewhere, enjoying all this nice, hot, Chicago weather lately. I guess I got my wish.

We went out on the pontoon boat, first thing. I love pontoon boats. I think if I weren't human, and I was just an "object", I would be a pontoon boat....           No, not really.

Hopefully someday we can afford something like that. I would love to have a home, or vacation home, on a lake somewhere. A nice little weekend getaway.

My wife's family was there so it was nice to see them too. I haven't seen her parents in a while.

Week 22 Day 5 - Our baby's growth

9:40pm

Our daughter is about the size of a baseball mitt(or a papaya) this week. She weighs just over 1 pound and is about a foot long.

Our baby at 22 Weeks :
  • Now that she's got more developed eyes and lips, she's looking even more like a newborn.
  • She's sleeping in cycles -- about 12 to 14 hours per day (Most likely when my wife's not feeling any kicks!).
Pregnancy Symptoms at 22 Weeks :
  • Increased libido.
  • Stretch marks and maybe even an "outtie", coming from the expanding belly!
  • More vaginal discharge, a result of increased blood flow down there.
  • Steady weight gain -- about 1/2 pound each week until the end of the pregnancy.
  • Minor swelling in hands and feet. She usually can't get her wedding ring on anymore.
  • Back aches, due to extra pressure from baby and carrying around the extra weight.
  • Hair growth. I'm not too sure how I feel about this...
  • Trouble catching your breath, as baby continues to crowd the lungs. She complains about this quite often.

I am working the late shift again today. Start at 1pm. Before I leave though I am going to throw some pork country ribs in the crockpot. My wife marinated them over night in the fridge with some rib rub, I can only imagine how delicious they will be when I get home tonight.

7:19pm

All I can think about is those ribs waiting for me at home. I cut my first special order tonight, by myself. A lady wanted 6 "exact thickness" filet mignons. I got to work and she loved them. I like being able to do what I love and get the satisfaction of making somebody happy in return.

My wife isn't answering so she must have fallen asleep. Happens quite often actually. Is this normal? I thought the sleepiness went away in the second trimester?
