Week 38 Day 6 - Finishing Touches

11:29pm

This baby sure is kicking a lot. Now when she moves, the belly really stretches. I'm waiting for a foot to show through the skin or something. Pretty wild.

We finally got baby's bedding and it all set up in her crib. Tell me what you think, my wife picked it out.

And of course, my favorite part...

Her sign that says "I have found my Prince, I call him daddy".

The bedding is handmade and took ten weeks to receive. Seemed like forever, but her room is finally ready. We also got a changing table, too!

It was my mom's birthday yesterday so we surprised her tonight with a cake!

Week 33 Day 3 - Escaping Babies

2:20pm

I'm watching Steve Harvey on television right now. He is featuring a dad that spoils his daughter. Now this may sound normal, most dads try their best to give their children everything they can. But this daughter is 28 years old. He has had to work 3 jobs, at times, to support the family's bills. All while making sure the daughter gets whatever she wants.

Went to the doctor's appointment yesterday, everything is looking good. Her blood pressure was a tad high, but nothing to worry about. Probably because she was stressed all day at work, and had to rush to make it on time to the appointment. Baby's heartbeat is at 140, which is good, and has stayed pretty consistent around there for the last few weeks. She is worried about going into labor early, but our doctor told us that only 10 percent of women go into labor early. I thought it was like 50/50 early, and late. But I guess not. However, we should be prepared, just in case.

Check out these babies escaping their cribs!

What a bunch of little sneakers! I can't wait for our little one to be here. Hopefully she is funny!

Question for the readers:

Would you spoil your child late into their 20's? Or is there a point in time where they need to support themselves? How old is too old?

Week 31 Day 2 - Crib Is Up

8:42am

Crib is finally up. It was really easy to build, actually. A few screws and that was it. I was thinking that it would be an all-day project. My wife and I had it up in about an hour.

We still need the mattress and bedding though. We registered for the mattress and the bedding is already picked out. We just don't have it yet. The baby's room is really coming along though. Almost ready now!

I put up a picture of our baby shower invitation on Instagram a few days ago. This is the response I received from TinyPrints, where we ordered the cards from!

I thought that was pretty cool!

We are going back again next week for another try at the 3d Ultrasound pictures. Her little face is so smashed in there up against my wife's skin that it's hard to get a good look at her. We have pictures but they are pretty distorted. Either her nose is cut off, because of the ultrasound "wand" having to be pushed too hard against the skin, or their is placenta in the way. The pictures are almost scary looking so I will wait until we can get some clear ones. If the next attempt doesn't work, then I think we will just give up on them. Three attempts is enough.

Week 30 Day 6 - Baby Room is Move-In Ready

4:37pm

It feels so late already today. However we got a lot accomplished. The baby's room is finally painted! My wife and I worked on it all last night, and pretty much all day today up until about an hour ago.

I kind of wish that I would have been able to enjoy the beautiful weather outside today, on my day off, since I very rarely get a weekend day off. It's ok though, your priorities change when you become parents, or are becoming parents. I was able to run to the bank this morning, and take the motorcycle, so I did get a little wind in my hair. Hair that my wife also cut this morning. Add that to the list of accomplishments today.

-Took the bike out
-Got my hair cut
-Went to the bank
-Made breakfast
-Painted baby's room

What we still are going to do today..

-Shopping for some more maternity clothes
-Wife's sister's birthday party, have you ever heard of WhirlyBall?
-Hopefully eat sometime, I'm starving!

Now that the baby's room is painted, we can put together her crib. Not really looking forward to that, because I hear it's quite a pain. But once that's done it's pretty much set!

Here are some before and after photos. The colors are a little off, because of the lighting and editing. But you get the idea. And before anyone says that a pregnant person shouldn't be painting, let me just tell you that she insisted on doing a lot of the work, and that we used special DutchBoy Refresh paint, which is low odor and claimed to be safe for pregnancy. It really had almost no smell whatsoever. Interesting stuff..

Original walls were a matte white/dirty white look. Easily wiped off with your fingers. No good for babies.

Taped off everything. Painted closet door white.

Clearer picture.

Wife painting up on the ladder. I watched her, and kept a firm grip on the ladder.

Painting...

More painting...

Finished! Now if only we had some new carpet... (Walls are not this dark in person, must be lighting?)

Walls are done, trim is all repainted white as well.

Week 23 Day 1 - Five Foods To Avoid While Pregnant

7:30am

Up a little early this morning for some reason. We were able to pick up our baby's crib and dresser yesterday. They are solid wood so of course they were extremely heavy! Thanks to my grandpa and uncle for helping me get them into the house. Couldn't have done it by myself. And Thanks to my wife's parents for buying them for us!

I am supposed to have a dentist appointment at 2:30pm. I forgot to write it in my calendar way back when I originally scheduled. So they called me late last week and I realized I was scheduled to work today. By the time I was going to call and cancel on Saturday they had already closed. Found out later that if I cancel the day of the appointment, today, that it will be a $50 cancellation fee. My luck.

11:31am

Have you ever stuck your head into a pile of cow manure? My way to work felt a lot like that thanks to the truck full of it driving in front of me. Yum.

Man that crib was heavy! I didn't realize how awkward shaped the box would be. And it must be solid wood because it was no lightweight. The dresser is really nice too. Equally heavy.

While at the baby store I used the restroom and couldn't help notice, and think to myself, who feels the need to violently tear toilet paper and throw it all over while using the restroom?

I don't get it.

2:17pm

5 Foods To Avoid While Pregnant:

1. Packaged ramen noodles

Read the label: These quick-cooking noodles are packed with salt, fat, and little else.

2. Soda

If you fill up on empty calories and sugar, you won't have any room for more nutritious drinks. Low-fat milk, water, and juice are better choices.
3. Shelf-stable commercial lunches
Sure, they're a quick fix for hunger pangs, but preservatives, salt, and fat make most of them a poor choice. There are some okay packaged lunch options out there, though, so check the labels!
4. Too many frozen prepared meals
There are some good choices out there, but many have astronomical amounts of salt and fat. Instead, pop a potato in the microwave, then top it with cheese and steamed broccoli for a fast, healthy meal. If you can't avoid the occasional frozen meal, look for organic brands that are low in salt and fat.
5. Iceberg lettuce
When it comes to lettuce, choose greens, such as romaine, that are full of fiber, A and C vitamins, folic acid, calcium, and potassium. Iceberg lettuce has only trace amounts of these nutrients.

BabyandBump Awkward Pregnancy Photo Contest

After finding a website full of hilarious awkward pregnancy photos, I decided to have a little contest amongst the members over at BabyandBump to see if they could come up with anything better. There are several great photos that they gave me to choose from, however "babyjan" had my wife and I laughing the hardest! Thanks babyjan and everyone else too!
